Brooke Lynn Hytes better find some new judgy Judies.
When it was announced earlier this year that Canada’s Drag Race was renewed for a second sickening season, fans assumed that the original trio of judges — Drag Race Season 11 queen Brooke Lynn Hytes, actor Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, and fashion model Stacey McKenzie — would be returning to critique the new set of queens.
But a tweet from the official Canada’s Drag Race account broke the news that McKenzie would not be a judge on the upcoming season because of “COVID-related challenges,” most likely due to Canada’s strict COVID travel restrictions.
#CanadasDragRace fans, we’re sad to share that Stacey McKenzie won’t be able to return for Season 2 due to COVID-related challenges. We’ll miss her killer lewks, positive vibes, & energy but know that she’ll be cheering on the S2 queens! Stay tuned for updates on our judges soon! pic.twitter.com/TAIftE9KCD

It was previously revealed that Bowyer-Chapman would not be back due to scheduling conflicts with his role in the upcoming Disney+ reboot of Doogie Howser M.D., Doogie Kameāloha, M.D.
“Unfortunately, our third will not be joining us this season. He’s filming his new show,” Hytes said during an IGTV kiki with McKenzie. “He’s busy, he’s booked, and he’s getting paid, and, unfortunately, with scheduling, things just didn’t work out for him to come back this season.”
When speaking with NewNowNext back in 2020, McKenzie said her favorite memories from filming, aside from great moments with the queens, was her connection with the other judges: “I really enjoyed the connection me, Brooke, and Jeffrey had. Brooke does this funny voice that has me rolling each time and Jeffrey is always trying to cleanse the aura of our set.”
She also said how surprised she was with how well the contestants took critiques: “The surprising thing for me was how well the queens took our critiques—they were willing to learn how to better themselves and their craft, egos were put aside which was refreshing.”
McKenzie and Bowyer-Chapman will be missed, but we can’t wait to see who Hytes enlists to help her find Canda’s next drag superstar.
