“RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K.” Season 2 Filming on Hold Due to Coronavirus

"At the moment the plug has been pulled completely on the show..."

As with pretty much every other television and movie production, filming for RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K. Season 2 has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, production on RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K. will be temporarily pausing filming both in consultation with and supported by the BBC,” a BBC spokesperson told the Daily Mail. “We will continue to review all productions on a case by case basis and will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the Foreign Office, World Health Organisation and Public Health England.”

Filming was already underway at Pinewood Studios, but a source told The Sun that continuing production was “deemed far too risky” with contestants, talent, and production teams all on set.

“At the moment the plug has been pulled completely on the show and as it stands, the second series of Drag Race is on hold,” said the source. “It’s awful for everyone involved, people aren’t working and the studios are empty. But obviously the health of everyone on the show comes first.”

RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K. was renewed for a second season in November. “I want to thank the BBC and all our fans for their overwhelming support of RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K,” RuPaul said in a statement. “This season’s queens proved that Britain’s Got Charisma Uniqueness Nerve and Talent and I want to see more! Here’s to another season of love, laughter and light!”

Here’s to everyone staying safe and healthy, and remember, especially in this time of coronavirus: Drag is not a contact sport!

I write about drag queens. Dolly Parton once ruffled my hair and said I was "just the cutest thing ever."
