The Netflix period piece has us clutching our pearls.

Lace up that corset tight and get ready to clutch your favorite pearls!

The first trailer for Shonda Rhimes’ inaugural Netflix series, Bridgerton, is finally here. Even though it’s a period piece, it is also a Shondaland production, so there is pretty much guaranteed to be sex and scandals aplenty.

Based on Julia Quinn’s bestselling novels, Bridgerton follows the escapades of the eight children of the late Viscount Bridgerton in early 19th-century England. One of those siblings is the eldest son, Anthony, whose official character description has our ears perked:

The quintessential English nobleman, Anthony is the eldest Bridgerton sibling and dutiful head of the family since assuming his late father’s title of Viscount. Endlessly handsome, charming and rich, he’s quite the catch on this year’s marriage mart. But if he has any hope of fulfilling his oftentimes overwhelming duty of marrying and producing an heir, Anthony must first learn to temper his pursuit of pleasure.

Out actor Jonathan Bailey (Broadchurch) plays Anthony, and in the new preview, you can get a quick glimpse of his character in the midst of a hot, shirtless hookup with another Victorian hunk (pictured above).

Bridgerton is the latest series from Rhimes (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy) and Shondaland vet Chris Van Dusen, who serves as executive producer and showrunner.

The series hits Netflix on December 25. Until then, watch the steamy first look below.
